Our Breeding Program Philosophies

At Epoch, our dogs are literally the sole focus of our lives. Our dogs are part of our family, our home, and are the inspiration behind much of my life, hobbies and artwork. I pour my entire life and soul into planning, executing and raising litters when I  *do* decide to seldomly breed. I don't breed to produce puppies- I breed to provide loving, stable, goofy, joyful dogs to share this wonderful breed with others.  My dogs are my pets, my companions, my teammates and bed partners! Our dogs live with us in our home and are a part of our everyday lives. We believe the best way to continue to breed for sound temperament and pleasant dogs to live with,  is to actually live with them.  We may go to dog shows, compete at agility trials, obedience/rally events and tracking tests, but the safety, mental well-being and comfort of my dogs is always the number one concern.

I believe in letting my females mature before deciding to go forward with a litter or not. As most serious health issues tend to show up between the ages of 2-3, I feel very strongly that females should be bred 3+ years of age, after full physical and mental maturity has been reached, and the danger of them passing on any genetic health issues to their puppies is lower. Also, I am in no rush. I let my dogs fully mature and usually start their performance and show careers around 1.5-2 years of age. It is important for me to prove my dogs in various venues, so I can move forward with not only stable and sound dogs, but with dogs who will also be my own personal performance lines up to my own standards.

Breeding is the cherry on top for me, never a requirement or something that "MUST" be done. My dogs are worth so much more to me than their ability to produce a litter, and their ability to do that or not do that does not change the way I value them. I'm an open book and am happy to talk to you about any health concerns in the line or what I feel may be a concern for any given breeding. I also believe in providing lifelong support and dedication to all my puppy owners. You are not just purchasing a dog from me, you are taking home a very wanted, very loved piece of my life!

I will not even consider doing a breeding for a sire or dam who doesn't meet my criteria for temperament, health, structural soundness, overall personality (ease of living with the dog), as well as proving themselves in the given discipline I'm seeking.  I am very serious about Health Testing, and I will only consider using a sire that has the same amount of rigorous health testing as my own dogs. This includes OFA Hips & Elbows, PRA, PFK, DM, and other genetic DNA tests, Thyroid screening, current and clear ophthalmology exams and yearly rechecks. My dogs receive the best possible preventive vet care and get bloodwork and check-ups done twice yearly. I work with a board certified reproductive vet during pregnancy and breeding to ensure health and wellbeing of the dam is being managed in the most comprehensive way possible.  My dogs live as stress-free lives as possible and  I work hard to make sure they are happy and fulfilled. They receive daily exercise, conditioning, enrichment and love.

Picking a compatible sire for each litter is challenging and time consuming. I take several years of planning for each litter to make sure that I am doing my absolute best to pick a dog that will mesh well with my existing line, female's individual temperament, health, structural strengths/ weaknesses and overall traits. The right Sire for each litter isn't usually in the same state, let alone on the same side of the country or even the same side of the world! I spare no expense to make sure that the dog I choose to use follows my strict standard in every regard to give my future puppies the best possible outcome in the genetics lottery.

I will be planning a litter for Spring 2026. Please take some time to fill out our application. Please be patient as I receive a large number of applications each month and I do take my time to sort through the responses very seriously. How are our Puppies raised?

Puppies are the center of my world for the 3 months they spend here with us. They are born in our living room, raised with our other dogs, have daily grooming and handling sessions, go on car rides as soon as their eyes open, start potty training and crate training at 5 weeks on and mostly go home at 10-12 weeks almost completely potty trained! They go home loving their crate and feeling secure when needing to be crated at their new home. They begin leash training, vet handling skills, public outings and human/dog socialization of all kind.  At 10-12 weeks they also begin to go to off site training day camp with other similar aged puppies where they learn about crating and playing/ socializing in new locations as well as handling/ training from novel people.

My goal is to provide puppies with appropriate exposure to daily life, coping skills, and comfort in new situations that by the time they come to you, they will fit right into your household with confidence and security!

Prior to pick-up you will be given a log-in for a "pre going home" puppy education course through Fenzi Dog Academy . Puppies go home with puppy binders with science based education to help you through their lives, microchipped, AKC registered, a month of Flea/ Tick & Heartworm treatment given before they leave, Vaccinations/Fecal checks and exams all done at my veterinarian! You will also get a 8lb bag of their current diet, some enrichment toys they have been introduced to to keep their brains busy, probiotics and adaptil to help with their transition and more! My puppies are part of my life forever  and the most important thing for me is that you have everything you need going forward from me both in support and in communication. I welcome updates and offer free grooming for life if you are close enough to come visit.
